These are some common Navajo symbols used in etched pottery. We received this from one of the Navajo women we purchase from. From the top of the graphic down, the symbols are: Eagle Feather of the Navajo Nation Bird; Wind; Teepee- where Dine´ conduct their ceremonies; Rocks; Clouds; Rain; Corn- from which they get the yellos corn powder; Mountain or Hill and Cedar Tree- for ceremonial use. The space between each design represents Life renewing force. The four colors on the pottery represent the Four Sacred Mountains. East- White, South- Blue, West- yellow and North- Black. Green in the pottery represents the color of trees which is used for medicine for healing. Red represents the color of Mother Earth or the color that represents the Navajo People- Dine´ |
